Fans of Olly Moss are eager to hear and see more about his foray into the video game world as he works with the “small but scrappy video game studio in San Francisco,” Campo Santo.  The other day we gave you some insight on a new print from Moss for the game that will be going on sale soon. Well now we get some concept art for the game that is about ….well here is the official synopsis:

In Firewatch you play as a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot and dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor, a woman named Delilah, is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio—and is your only contact with the world you’ve left behind.

But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the world, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making interpersonal choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.

The other day Olly checked in to give fans a glimpse of some impressive concept art for the game.  The color palette is vivid, the scenes are beautiful and these images only leave you wanting to know and see more.  Here is what he had to say about it.

Hello! Olly here, writing to you from Campo Santo’s secret UK headquarters. I’ve been given permission from top brass to declassify these rough concept sketches from our first game, Firewatch. So here they are: early ideas for places you might see and things you might use!

It’s all quite new to me, this video game lark. Thankfully everyone in the studio has been very patient and helpful. I’m learning so much! For instance, last week Jake offered to introduce me to the industry-standard Allard™ scale. Thanks, Jake!

Let’s face it, EVERYONE is excited for tomorrow.  Aside from it being my birthday, it is also the premier of Season four of HBO’s insanely fantastic series, “Game of Thrones.”  You may have noticed that we are featuring a lot of art based off the show.  Well today will be no exception and we are starting things off with a new offering from the clever bloke from Winchester, U.K., Olly Moss.

Olly teased fans the other day when he tweeted, “Oh man. I drew a buttload of GoT characters. A buttload.” After that he then posted some images and now fans are rabid to get them.  Lucky for everyone, it will be a timed release so if you want them, you shall have them!

Your eyes are not deceiving you and yes, he literally “drew a buttload!”, 30 to be exact and each one is highly desirable.  Now Olly is smart and will be offering these as individual pieces that measure 5 X 5 and he will also be selling them in sets and there will be a discounted full set option as well.  (These set are how he has them set up on his blog which leads me to believe, THIS is how he will offer the sets.)

Madrid based graphic designer/ illustrator Javier Vera Lainez has taken his love of the hit HBO series, “True Detective“ to the next level with some sensational prints.  He has done one print per episode in a silhouette style that is reminiscent of the Star Wars series by Olly Moss.

Here is what Javier had to say about his series of eight prints.  This work is based on the double exposition of the title sequence created by the talented Jennifer Sofio Hall as Elas studio Antibody.  It tries to capture, in someway, the Louisiana landscapes and also the richness and complexity of the characters.  The common place for all this collection is the main scene representation of each episode through various visual planes, inserted into silhouettes of the characters.

…the only problem is we HAVE to wait because it doesn’t come out until 2015!  The game is the first from the new studio Campo Santo.  The studio is a new startup comprised of  co-founders, designers Jake Rodkin and Sean Vanaman, (formerly of Telltale Games’ acclaimed ‘Walking Dead‘ series), Nels Anderson (whose resume includes ‘Mark of the Ninja‘), Chris Remo, Jane NG, Will Armstrong, James Benson, Paolo Surricchio and one of the most popular graphic designers of pop culture and video game fame, Olly Moss.

The first thing to note is that the environment is absolutely stunning and there is a great attention to detail.  The opening shot shows a Firewatch Tower with a spinning wind vane, a flag, communication lines and even tall grass all gently blowing in the wind.  The game is a 1st person, puzzle based game set in the Wyoming wilderness in 1989, led by narrative between the games two main characters.  You see the game through the eyes of Henry whose only other contact is at the other end of a walkie talkie.  There is definitely an eerie tone to everything as you start to put the pieces together of Henry’s past and the plot starts to unravel.

This first trailer leaves us wanting more….a lot more and we can’t wait until it is released in 2015 for for Windows, Mac, and Linux..  This first offering from the “small but scrappy video game studio in San Francisco” looks like it will be one of our biggest addictions next year.

Hard to believe but Campo Santo just celebrated their 1 year anniversary!  Given the massive success of Olly’s FIRST print for Firewatch, they are now releasing three all new prints (EXPERIENCE, PROTECT, DEFEND) as a timed release and they are pretty fantastic!  Each print is only $40 OR you can buy the set for $100.

Kepler-16b has been given the moniker “the land of two suns” for a good reason.  This newly discovered “exoplanet” was discovered back in 2011 and is one of three that orbit a sun far, far away. To date, the Kepler Space Telescope has discovered over 1000 new exoplanets!

Like Luke Skywalker’s planet “Tatooine” in Star Wars, Kepler-16b orbits a pair of stars. Depicted here as a terrestrial planet, Kepler-16b might also be a gas giant like Saturn. Prospects for life on this unusual world aren’t good, as it has a temperature similar to that of dry ice. But the discovery indicates that the movie’s iconic double-sunset is anything but science fiction. – Nasa

Nasa’s visual strategists (that sounds like an AWESOME job) Joby Harris, David Delgado and Dan Goods created these posters back in December 2014, under the guise of the fictional “Exoplanet Travel Bureau” or as we like to refer to it, the “E.T.B.”  Included in this poster series are prints for exoplanets: Kepler-186f, Kepler-16b and the behemoth, HD 40307g.

Kepler-186f is the first Earth-size planet discovered in the potentially ‘habitable zone’ around another star, where liquid water could exist on the planet’s surface. Its star is much cooler and redder than our Sun. If plant life does exist on a planet like Kepler-186f, its photosynthesis could have been influenced by the star’s red-wavelength photons, making for a color palette that’s very different than the greens on Earth. This discovery was made by Kepler, NASA’s planet hunting telescope. – Nasa

Twice as big in volume as the Earth, HD 40307g straddles the line between “Super-Earth” and “mini-Neptune” and scientists aren’t sure if it has a rocky surface or one that’s buried beneath thick layers of gas and ice. One thing is certain though: at eight time the Earth’s mass, its gravitational pull is much, much stronger. – Nasa

Inspired by what Nasa has discovered and now conceived in the realm of space AND travel posters, Olly Moss decided to give it a go and throw his own image into the fray.  Revealed on his TWITTER page, Olly said, “I really liked those Nasa Kepler travel posters so I doodled my own.”

Kepler-61b has a radius of slightly more than 2 Earth’s. It is located in the inner part of empirical habitable zone, a zone where liquid water could exist with high albedo, relatively low humidity and higher atmospheric pressure.- Wikipedia

If our math is correct, that leaves only 996 more travel posters to go!  It would seem that Nasa and Olly Moss have more than enough to do for the foreseeable future.

What happens when you take one of the most beloved young adult fantasy book series and ask a brilliant graphic designer to re-imagine the covers for them.  Well if you are talking about the new Harry Potter e-book series and Olly Moss, you get magic, which is totally fitting since the books are chock FULL of magic.

Sir Moss, (surely he’s been knighted by now right?) is a huge Harry Potter fan so this opportunity was a blissful chance for him to draw upon his wit, talent and imagination and come up with something truly special.  After seeing the end results, mission accomplished.

Olly was interviewed by J.K. Rowling’s website, Pottermore and had this to say.

‘Harry Potter has always been my favourite. I skipped [Philosopher’s Stone] because I was being a weird snob about it – I was ten. Then by the time Prisoner of Azkaban was out, I remember my mum saying I should read them.

‘We were going on holiday and she bought [Azkaban] for me, but she got me the adult covers of the first two novels because I was still being a snob.’

‘I like things to have more than one layer. The initial “oh that’s an attractive image” then it’s got a secondary reveal when you look closer. It’s something that I’ve always enjoyed doing.’

‘Deathly Hallows is my favourite cover, because it’s the image that has summed up Harry Potter in my mind for such a long time. The scar – it feels like the culmination of the entire series and that’s the image that’s been stuck in my head.

‘This is a world where things often seem quite mundane on the surface and then have a secondary reveal. I love coming up with those images because it makes me feel that no one’s done this before – no one’s seen something in this specific way.’

‘For Half-Blood Prince I thought maybe I should have a Snape cover but then that could be a horrible spoiler. Really it’s the book; it’s Dumbledore and Harry fighting off the Inferi. That’s such a vibrant image from that book. Also it’s nice to get Dumbledore on a cover.’

When asked about the project he reveals his true inner passion for Potter.

‘I really pitched my heart out. I came up with four or five different approaches and sketched most of the books for each.

‘The next day I got on a plane to Comic-Con, crashed on a friend’s hotel room floor and figured I’d forget about it. Two days later I woke up really hungover – so, so hungover because we’d been in the hotel bar until four in the morning. I got that call that said I got the job and I lost my mind.’

The eBooks with the Olly Moss artwork are now available at all leading retailers worldwide and will be available from the Pottermore Shop in 2016.

We would LOVE to see these released as a poster series…. hint-hint J.K. Rowling…..hint-hint….
